Tiarella 'Dark Eyes'
Dark Eyes Foamflower, Foamflower
This clump-forming perennial is the quintessential woodland ornamental, and ‘Dark Eyes’ offers beautiful pink flowers and unique foliage for year around interest.
It is particularly showy due to its green scalloped, maple-like leaves with contrasting purple veins. These form showy dense clumps, which slowly spread. The foliage remains evergreen in warmer climates and deciduous above zone 7. Its elegant spikes of small soft pink flowers rise well above the foliage and appear for many weeks in spring.
Plant foamflower in partial sun to shade and provide it with fertile, evenly moist soil with good drainage. Wait to prune away the cold damaged winter foliage until spring because it protects the crown from cold damage. Plant foamflower in large sweeps to create an effervescent wave of color. It looks particularly lovely beneath large shade trees where color is too often wanting.
