TIARELLA 'Inkblot'

Image of Tiarella 'Inkblot'

Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc.

Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

TIARELLA 'Inkblot'

Plant Common Name

Foamflower, Inkblot Foamflower

General Description

Sweet, small and shade loving, this hardy clump-forming perennial offers both beautiful flowers and attractive foliage. A hybrid, 'Inkblot' is named for the light spattering of purple at the center of its bluntly toothed glossy green leaves, suggesting spilled ink. The handsome hairy-stemmed leaves form dense clumps. They remains evergreen in warmer climates to bring winter color to dull, dormant gardens. Elegant frothy spikes of small pinkish-white flowers rise well above the foliage for many weeks in spring, creating a foamy wave of color when plants are massed.

This plant is ideal for dressing up exposed ground beneath large old shrubs or shade trees, where color is too often wanting. It also makes the perfect edging for a woodland path, or frontal plant for a shady mixed border. Do not be too quick to prune away winter killed foliage as it is vital to protecting the buds from damage. Provide with organically rich, well drained soils and let plants dry out between deep waterings.
