Image of Tilia x flavescens 'Glenleven'

Family

Tiliaceae

Botanical Name

TILIA x flavescens 'Glenleven'

Plant Common Name

Glenleven Linden, Hybrid Linden, Linden

General Description

Growing rapidly into a loosely pyramidal medium-sized tree, this hybrid of American basswood (Tilia americana) and little-leaf linden (Tilia cordata) offers exceptional cold-hardiness, handsome deciduous foliage, and fragrant early-summer flowers. The medium- to dark-green leaves have pale undersides and toothed edges. Fall color is dull yellow. The pendent branched clusters of small pale yellow flowers attract numerous honeybees. Relatively few fruits are produced. This straight-trunked tree has attractive dark gray bark.

Grow 'Glenleven' in full sun and deep moist well-drained soil. It dislikes soggy or dry sites. Use this vigorous linden for shade or to line a street.
