General Description

From the folks at Proven Winners® the striking hybrid wishbone plants in the Catalina® Series are superior bedding plants, great in containers and borders. They are vigorous, heavy blooming and have a spreading habit. Another perk is that these carefree bloomers require no deadheading and these torenias are particularly tolerant of heat resistant to deer. The exciting blooms of Catalina® Violet Flare are velvety plum-violet and bright yellow.

Garden Torenia is a reliable, profusely flowering perennial selected from a species native to tropical Asia. Pretty spreading plants have small bright green, coarsely toothed leaves. The showy tubular flowers have three lower petals, two upper petals and a distinctive wishbone-like structure inside comprised of two stamens that arch and come together. The flowers may be gold, magenta, violet-purple, rose or mauve and have contrasting throats of white, deep mauve or black.

Torenia is typically grown as annuals but will survive as short-lived perennials in frost-free climates. Wishbone flowers have little tolerance for drought and must be regularly watered when conditions are hot and dry. They excel in filtered bright light and organic-rich, evenly moist soil. Plant them in shaded beds and containers for season-long color.
