TRACHELIUM caeruleum( DEVOTION SERIES)
Plant Common Name
Offering a summer-long succession of frilly flower heads on compact plants, the Devotion Series comprises several seed-grown cultivars of the Mediterranean native Trachelium caeruleum. These tender perennials bear flat clusters of small starry blue, purple, white, or burgundy flowers on knee-high stalks from late spring through summer. The somewhat shrubby plants have paired, oval, mid-green leaves. Plants bloom 4 months after sowing, making them useful as seed-grown annuals. They also often self-sow.
Give these plants full to partial sun and well-drained soil. Where hardy, use them in perennial beds and cottage gardens. They make excellent annuals for gardens in colder regions, and also work well in containers. Deadhead to encourage continued bloom and prevent self-sowing. The flowers are good for cutting and for attracting bees and butterflies.
