Shirohototogisu Toadlily, Toadlily
General Description
The hybrid Shirihototogisu toadlily is a medium-sized, slowly spreading herbaceous perennial. Starry, pure white flowers appear from late summer into fall at the bases of broad, hairy leaves that are arranged like rungs on the arching stems.
Toadlily needs a partial to full shade exposure and thrives in moist, organic-rich, well drained loam. It tolerates the drier soils under large trees well once established. Avoid highly alkaline or mucky soils. Plant in a woodland setting with perennials such as foamflower, maidenhair fern, lungwort, and sweet woodruff.
