Botanical Name

Tropaeolum majus 'Peach Melba'( JEWEL SERIES)

Plant Common Name

General Description

The pale yellow flowers of 'Peach Melba' are borne on compact, mounding plants. It is a dwarf selection of nasturtium, an annual vine native to central South America.

From summer to fall this nasturtium bears numerous of large creamy yellow flowers with mahogany eye-blotches. The flowers have five petals and a long pointed nectar-rich spur. The frilly blooms are highly attractive to hummingbirds and their beauty is enhanced by distinctive bright green parasol-shaped, or peltate, leaves.

Nasturtiums are incredibly easy to cultivate if grown were summers are cool. Overall, they do best if given bright light—direct where summers are cool and indirect where hot—rich fertile soil and regular water. Almost all garden cultivated nasturtiums are grown from seed, including those in the Jewel Series.

Dwarf nasturtiums are great bedding plants that can easily hide fading bulb foliage. They add sparkle to containers, herb and vegetable gardens, or anywhere that quick color is needed. Their ease of growth and bright colors make them popular with children. The flowers are also edible and offer a peppery taste and beautiful look to salads.

In warm southern and western climates, nasturtiums are commonly grown as winter annuals.
