VERBENA (TEMARI® SERIES)

Image of Verbena (TEMARI® SERIES)

James H. Schutte

Family

Verbenaceae

Botanical Name

VERBENA( TEMARI® SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Verbena

General Description

The colorful Verbena in the Temari® Series are best known for their abundant bright flowers, wide-spreading habit, and good mildew resistance. Easily grown from seed, these low, everblooming bedding plants have fine deep green leaves with toothed edges.

These butterfly favorites produce many rounded clusters of small tubular flowers with wide-flaring tips. The five-lobed blue, white, pink, or purple flowers often have white eyes or banding. They bloom all year in climates with mild winters and all summer in temperate locations. To encourage continuous heavy blooming regularly deadhead the plants or cut them back lightly in late summer.

Like many other verbenas, these tolerate drought, heat and humidity. They prefer full sun and moderately fertile, amply drained soil. Too much shade results in leggy sparsely flowered plants. Powdery mildew is a problem for most Verbena, but those in this series are resistant. Still, good airflow and care will help plants stay healthy. They are superb for bedding and planters, and are spectacular cascading from hanging baskets.
