General Description
Colorful, compact, and exceptionally long-blooming, Veronica ‘Baby Doll’ is the product of years of hybridization work by Netherlands plant breeder, Jan Verschoor. This amazing little perennial produces a low mound of green, toothed, lance-shaped foliage which is topped with loads of clear-pink, upright, conical flower spikes from early to late summer.
Veronica ‘Baby Doll’ is a slow-growing perennial which thrives in full sun and reasonably rich, well-drained soil. It is somewhat tolerant of drought, but appreciates regular moisture. Shear back the first set of flowers when they fade to encourage heavier rebloom. Its dwarf habit and floriferous nature make ‘Baby Doll’ perfect for containers, rock gardens, or grouping at the front of perennial borders.
The genus Veronica encompasses a large number of annuals, perennials and sub-shrubs, most of which are native to Europe. Veronica species may be prostrate or upright, and occur in a variety of habitats ranging from moist meadows to dry, rocky alpine areas. Small, open, tubular flowers in shades of blue, purple, white or pink are held either singly or in dense to loose, upright spikes. The many forms of Veronica have yielded numerous excellent, garden-worthy cultivars and hybrids.
