Family

Scrophulariaceae

Botanical Name

VERONICA 'Purpleicious' PP17639

Plant Common Name

Spike Speedwell

General Description

Offering a sturdy compact habit and a summer-long display of showy violet-purple flower spikes, ‘Purpleicious’ is an outstanding cultivar of spike speedwell. This vigorous herbaceous perennial offers candelabra-like clusters of purple blooms above clumps of handsome dark green leaves. The flowers attract bees and butterflies, and removing spent spikes prolongs flowering. The foliage turns golden yellow to yellow green in fall.

This sun-loving perennial grows best in fertile to average soil with good drainage. It is a great plant for rock gardens and mixed borders and can even be used as a small-scale herbaceous groundcover. It pairs well with herbaceous potentilla, Dianthus, blue fescue and dwarf daylilies.
