Veronica spicata 'Glory' PP18932
Glory Speedwell, Spike Speedwell
Offering a compact habit and two months or more of showy violet-purple flower spikes in late spring and summer, 'Glory' (also known as 'Royal Candles') is an outstanding new cultivar of spike speedwell, a long-popular herbaceous perennial native to Europe and western Asia. Appearing in candelabra-like clusters above mats of dark green leaves, the fuzzy flower spikes attract bees and butterflies. Bloom will often continue if spent flowers are removed. The foliage turns golden yellow to yellow green in fall.
This sun-loving perennial grows best in fertile to average soil with good drainage. It is a great plant for rock gardens and mixed borders and can even be used as a small-scale herbaceous groundcover. It pairs well with herbaceous potentillas, Dianthus, blue fescue and dwarf daylilies.
