VERONICA spicata 'High Five' PP16415
High Five Speedwell, Spike Speedwell
Bearing showy extra-tall violet-blue flower spikes for many weeks in summer, 'High Five' is an outstanding new cultivar of spike speedwell, a long-popular herbaceous perennial native to Europe and western Asia. Appearing in candelabra-like clusters above clumps of handsome dark green leaves, the fuzzy flower spikes attract bees and butterflies. Removing spent flowers spikes encourages prolonged bloom. The foliage turns golden yellow to yellow green in fall.
This sun-loving perennial grows best in fertile to average soil with good drainage. It is a great plant for rock gardens and mixed borders and can even be used as a small-scale herbaceous groundcover. It pairs well with herbaceous potentillas, Dianthus, blue fescue and dwarf daylilies.
