Linden Viburnum
Linden viburnum is a large deciduous shrub with flat-topped clusters of white flowers that develop into numerous, very showy bright red fruits. This East Asian native has slightly arching branches and broadly oval, mid-green leaves. The foliage turns shades of red, yellow and bronze in autumn.
This viburnum performs best in full sun and evenly moist soil. Use it to provide autumn interest in mixed borders and informal hedges. Birds are attracted to its berries, so try it in a wildlife garden. A diversity of cultivars are available including the prolifically fruiting 'Erie', yellow-fruited 'Michael Dodge', and compact-growing 'Catskill'. Plant at least two cultivars for heaviest fruit-set.
