VITIS 'Suffolk Red'

Jessie Keith

Family

Vitaceae

Botanical Name

VITIS 'Suffolk Red'

Plant Common Name

Red Seedless Dessert Grape, Suffolk Red Grape

General Description

The upright vines of the grape cultivar ‘Suffolk Red’ produce firm, red, seedless eating grapes. Fruits are borne in loose clusters in the early to mid-season. The cultivar ‘Reliance’ is a superior sport of ‘Suffolk Red’.

Plant a grape in a loam or well draining clay soil that has a neutral to alkaline pH. Full sun will allow for best growth, flowering and subsequent fruiting. Like many grapes, ' Suffolk Red' should be cane pruned before new spring growth appears. Pruning allows for controlled, healthy growth and encourages high quality fruit production. Be aware of prevalent grape diseases in your region, as well as risks of bird predation on fruits and deer and rodent damage on canes in winter.
