This showy-leaved ornamental corn has broad, glossy, white-striped foliage on dwarf stalks. Its bold colorful leaves complement the flowers of other warm-season annuals. It can even be grown in large containers!
Sow the seed in warm soil in spring or early summer. Plants can be started indoors. Corn plants thrive in full hot sun and fertile, moist, nutrient-rich soil with good drainage. There are a number of diseases and pests that plague corn. Corn earworms are common as are nighttime raids from raccoons. The grotesque fungal disease called corn smut is another problem to watch out for.
Ornamental corn varieties such as this are ideal for sunny summer floral borders where bold, heat-resistant color is needed.
