(Deadnettle)

The genus Lamium contains approximately 40 species of annuals and perennials that occur naturally in a range of habitats across Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa and Asia. They are commonly known as deadnettles due to their resemblance to stinging nettles; however they do not have the stinging hairs associated with true nettles, and are therefore “dead”. A few species are grown for their attractive foliage, flowers and spreading habit. Some have become serious weeds of agricultural...

(White Deadnettle)

With soft leaves and white flowers that are held at the leaf bases on the upward-reaching, four-sided stems, white deadnettle is a sprawling hardy perennial native to Europe and western Asia. Its leaves are held opposite each other on the stems. They are soft to the touch, oval to triangular in shape, taper to a point and have jagged edges. In late spring and summer, clusters of white flowers open around the stem at the base of the leaf pairs. Each blossom has an upper "lid" that is hairy, and a...

The four-sided purplish stems of henbit sprawl horizontally but turn upwards at the tips. Opposite pairs of green hairy leaves kissed with purple line the stems. The round leaf surfaces are hairy and...
