There are around 50 herbaceous species, most adapted to meadows and open, upland areas, which offer attractive, garden-worthy blooms. An award-winning Shasta daisy selection, ‘Daisy Duke’ - marketed under the name Daisy May™ - is shorter growing, a profuse bloomer and needs less exposure to wintertime cold (vernalization) to start its flowering display. The white petals overlap in each blossom. It also produces lots of secondary flower buds on side stem-branches, something atypical of most other Shasta daisies. 'Daisy Duke' originated at an Illinois nursery in 2005.
