A: The Learn2Grow website was designed for a minimum resolution of 1024x768. You can do this in in Windows by right clicking on your desktop and choosing "Properties" from the pop-up menu, then selecting the "Settings" tab. Learn2Grow Course Questions

Q: After I purchase a course, how do I gain access to the course?
A: You are immediately given a page that has a link to the course. Click the link and the course starts. Additionally, the course link is added to your My Learn2Grow Courses area (left hand column) where you can launch the course at any time. The site will keep track of your purchase of a course and will not allow you to buy it multiple times. Rather, it will remind you that you have already purchased it and will direct you to your My Learn2Grow page.

Q: Do the basic Learn2Grow courses have quizzes that require a certain pass rate?
A: No. The courses are self-paced and although self-assessments are included to help you see your mastery of the course content, there is no pass rate required to move beyond a self-assessment or take another course.

Q: To take a Learn2Grow course are you given a password for a certain web site for online work? Or a CD or DVD?
A: The courses are offered in an online mode. So, your Learn2Grow Username and password is all you need.

Q: Can a dial-up connection be successfully be used to take a Learn2Grow course?
A: Parts of the courses include a voice over image affect similar to what you may have seen in the Ken Burns documentariesBaseball and Civil War. Those sections of the courses will not work well over dialup.

Q: Are Learn2Grow courses completed incrementally over time at your own pace, or is it in one sitting?
A: The course is completely self-paced. You are not limited to the number of times you enter the course and your access will not expire. So, you might use it for education now and then later it may become a reference for your gardening activities.

Q: What range of time does it take to complete courses (such as "Better Bulbs")?
A: The short answer is 1-2 hours, not including projects. The courses aside from the Getting Green course, which is twice as long, have a "main line" of instruction that is designed for the typical home gardener. It takes approximately 20 minutes to go through the course in that way. This time does not include doing any of the projects that are included in the course. Each course also has an additional 20-30 minutes of content that is supplementary and designed for learners who wish to delve a bit deeper into the topic or simply have more time to look at all of the content. Each course has a number of projects that would take more time away from the computer. They are not required projects.

Q: Why is my Learn2grow course menu button disabled?
A: There are a couple of reasons this might be happening.

  1. The course menu might be displayed already, but it is minimized or hidden behind another browser window. This can happen if you click on the course window while the menu window is already open. Try minimizing each window until you find the menu window, or if you are on a Windows computer, check the task bar at the bottom of your screen for the menu window's button.
  2. You may have a pop-up blocker installed in your browser which prevented the menu window from opening the first time you clicked the Menu button. When this happens, our course software has no way of knowing that the menu wasn't displayed by your browser, and therefore disables the menu button thinking that the menu is already being displayed. You should disable all popup blockers or add the Learn2Grow.com website to your list of sites that are allowed to show popups. The procedure for doing this varies depending on which popup blocker you have installed. Please see your popup blocker vendor's instructions for further information on how to configure your popup blocking software.

Q: Are you given homework or a project to be reviewed by some mentor?
A: Each course has projects. We encourage learners to do one of the included projects or to apply the knowledge from the course to their own garden/yard and to post pictures and their outcomes on our forums where our gardening experts and other users may comment.

Q: Do Learn2Grow Courses count for Master Gardener credit?
A: Learn2Grow courses can count as Master Gardener credits at Michigan State University. They are not technically CEUs. For more details please visit the Michigan State University Master Gardener site and look for the volunteer reporting.

Q: How do I access my free course?
A: Courses that you have purchased or received as a complimentary gift for registering are accessible from your My Learn2Grow page of the Learn2Grow website. To get there:

  1. Click on the My Learn2Grow tab at the top of this page.
